It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing
of James
Lester, age 95, of Mary Esther, Florida, on
February 22,
2025. A man of quiet strength and extraordinary
courage, James leaves behind a legacy defined by nearly
a century of life and dedicated service to his country. A Hero’s Service James was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served with distinction as a Rustic FAC (Forward Air Controller). Operating in the high-stakes environment of supporting the Cambodian Army, he played a critical role in aerial reconnaissance and combat coordination. For his "heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight," James was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. His bravery in the cockpit and his unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers remain a point of immense pride for his family and a testament to his character. In his later years, James was a familiar face in the Mary Esther community. At 95, he was a living link to history, carrying the stories of his service and a lifetime of experiences with a grace that inspired those around him. In accordance with his wishes, no services are scheduled at this time. The family appreciates the community's respect for their privacy as they grieve. A Note from the Family The Lester family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness. They ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time and remember the life of a true American hero. |
